From Sorrow to Action: Changes to Come, Following Traffic Deaths of Two Young People Bicycling

In the somber aftermath of recent events, we find ourselves grappling with sorrow. The loss of two young lives, Myles Farago and Jaxon Crabtree, has left our hearts heavy and our spirits searching for solace.

Their tragic deaths while bicycling to school—nine days apart and 70 miles away from each other—have cast a somber shadow over our community. Our thoughts are with the families and friends whose lives are forever changed.

Amidst this darkness, however, we are compelled to find a glimmer of hope. In response to these heartbreaking incidents, positive action has been set into motion. Changes are being made to improve safety in the areas where Myles and Jaxon were killed, fueled by a collective commitment to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

This endeavor is not just about addressing the pain of the present but about forging a safer future for everyone in our communities. It is a pledge to make our streets safer, a pledge that emanates from shared sorrow and aspires to transform it into meaningful change.

The Florida Bicycle Association is committed to ensuring that the changes implemented in response to these tragedies become a template for proactive measures in other places. Our marching orders are clear: work diligently to prevent the recurrence of such heart-wrenching incidents and make our roads safer for everyone.
