Unite for Safer Streets

During National Bike Month in May, join the effort to make Florida more bicycle-friendly.

We have a problem.

National Bike Month is here, but so is the reality check: Florida ranks as one of the most dangerous places for people bicycling. While we celebrate the joys of biking, we can't ignore the urgent need for safer streets. Join us as we pedal for change. Take action today:

  1. Donate directly to our statewide effort to end distracted driving, improve on-street bicycle infrastructure, train young drivers on safety, and build more separated paths for people bicycling and walking.

  2. Sign the petition to reduce distracted driving by requiring people to put their phones down. Hands-Free Florida is the top legislative priority of the Florida Bicycle Association.

  3. Rate your bicycling routes and help crowdsource bicycling data by participating in the League of American Bicyclists' effort to #MakeEveryRideCount.

  4. Help end impaired driving by participating in the Ride Like MADD Tour de Florida challenge. Members of the Florida Bicycle Association receive $10 off the registration fee with the code in the Benefits tab of your member account.

Our mission: make Florida better for people who want to bicycle and for people who need to bicycle.

The Florida Bicycle Association is a 501c3, membership-based non-profit organization.

We mobilize volunteers and partners to create change.

We advocate for good public policy and infrastructure.

We educate cyclists, drivers, and others on safe practices.

We assist communities to become more bike-friendly.

We do this work to improve public health, strengthen local economies, advance equity, and protect the environment.

We are all in … and have been for 26 years.

What We Do

Mobilize

The Association trains and organizes volunteers across Florida to be local advocates for good policy and to educate their neighbors and other community members on safe practices.

Educate

We offer free and paid classes and certifications to help make bicycling safer for everyone. We also conduct helmet-fitting events, share best practices, and promote bike-friendliness.

Advocate

Florida Bicycle’s staff and board members speak on behalf of the membership at the local, state and federal level to promote policies, projects and programs that support bicycling.

Assist

We provide direct assistance to residents, technical practitioners, government staff, consultants and others to help them evaluate and decide on policies and designs that are best for bicyclists.

Share

We help “connect the dots” by connecting people with resources. Glossaries, information about government agencies, interesting stories and contact information for other organizations are amassed in our Resources section.

We are here to help make Florida more bike-friendly, and that starts by helping you. Let’s find the program you need.

Highlights

  • Funding for Schools to Use Free, Online Lessons

Florida schools can earn up to $500 each by engaging their students in educational, interactive quizzes that teach safe driving and bicycling practices.

  • Vehicle Plates for "Share The Road"

Take your love for the bicycling movement to the road: put a specialty license plate on your motor vehicle to remind other drivers to do the right thing by sharing the road. Each plate sold also supports the Share the Road educational campaign.

  • Get Your "Informed Bicycling" Guide

This quick-reference guide provides bicyclists across Florida with essential knowledge about their legal protections and responsibilities. It is available as a free PDF. Print copies can be ordered separately.

Save the date for the 2024 Florida Bicycle Summit: Nov. 15 to 17 in Central Florida

Everyone and anyone interested in "bikeability," bike-friendly design, and bicycle advocacy should join us for the statewide bicycle summit. Technical and professional sessions will be on Friday, with strong emphasis on safety and access; the bike expo will be Saturday morning, followed by general and advocacy sessions; and on Sunday, the big treat is the Florida Freewheelers' much-anticipated Horrible Hundred (which also offers options way shorter than 100mi!)

To be notified when registration opens for the 2024 Florida Bicycle Summit, please sign up for our newsletter at floridabicycle.org/news.

Thank you to the 2023 annual-meeting sponsors!
