Summer time

Is anyone in Florida not experiencing 90+ degree heat and amazing thunderstorms?  Yes, it’s summer time in Florida.  And yes, the Florida Bicycle Association blog has taken a few weeks off, and guess what?  We may take a few more weeks off before summer’s end.

That said, this week we have a blog.  Yay!  This blog, however, is more of a house-keeping blog.  We have a few updates to post before membership receives a quarterly update after our July 30th Board of Directors meeting.  Here goes:

  1. Our Resources by the FDOT webpage is now LIVE.  This is your opportunity to test our crowd-source theory by letting us know what information is missing.  Check it out: https://floridabicycle.org/resources-by-the-f-dot/FDOT Districts
  2. Have you emailed your legislative representative lately?  Relationships require a level of nurturing, even those with elected officials, or at the very least, their staff.  Summer is the best time to contact legislative staff for a little ‘educate your delegate’ time because they have the time.  Just do it!
  3. Our Complete Streets Savvy program has reached over 1,000 and continues to be requested.  Do you know of an organization, City Council or other group in need of meeting content?  Click here to complete our CSS presentation request form.
  4. Looking for a pedestrian program?  Walkwise Florida is a statewide grassroots program funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) that offers a free 20-minute interactive presentation focused on pedestrian safety.  Please visit walkwiseflorida.com for more information.
  5. From our friends at Rejjee:  The success of SAFE Bikes is expanding.  More police departments are helping return bikes to their rightful owner.   Rejjee Security Stickers are now available at the Rejjee TSP SuperStore, 3 pack for just $10.  Don’t worry, the RejjeeTSP App is still free.
  6. Make plans now to attend the first FBA Trails and Streets Bicycle Summit on Friday, October 28, 2:30PM – 4:30 PM at Wyndham Garden Hotel, 2900 SW 13th Street in Gainesville as part of Bike Florida’s annual Celebration of Cycling.  Our summit is FREE and open to the public.  Visit SharetheRoad.org for more information.COC_2016_1200_1200_SAVE
  7.  Also free and open to the public is FBA’s Florida Bicycle Best Practices Workshop, Saturday, November 19, 2PM – 5PM, held in conjunction with the Florida Freewheelers Horrible Hundred this November in Clermont. This workshop is open to anyone who wishes to learn or share ideas with other bicycle enthusiasts to be part of the solution for Florida bicycling concerns. The workshop is FREE and those who register in advance will receive entry to the Horrible Hundred on November 20 – details to follow on our website and Facebook page.FBA-summit (1)

   Happy Summer!
