Tweed Ride

March 20, 2010
9:00 amto1:30 pm

University MetroRail Station – 5400 Ponce de Leon, Coral Gables, FL 33146 (map)

Description: Sponsored by Green Mobility Network.  This is a costume ride. We’ll dig out knickers, argyle socks and other garb that Coral Gables founder George Merrick might have worn, then meet at Metrorail’s University Station for a fun ride to the Biltmore Hotel and other sights in the City Beautiful. Professor David Rifkind, of the FIU School of Architecture, will share some of the lore of the places we see. “We shall sally forth from University Metrorail Station for a leisurely ride through Historic Coral Gables. Ride will depart promptly at 9 a.m. and shall be narrated by Professor David Rifkind, School of Architecture at Florida International University. Of course, Tweed-style is not only about tweed. A proper cyclist looks good from head to toe: from the dashing cap, to the silk scarf, ascot, or bow tie accenting the neck, to the snappy knickers or skirts, and argyle socks! Prizes shall be furnished to the most dapper chap, the most snappy lass, the best real moustache, the best fake moustache, and the best vintage/antique steed.”

April FBA Board Meeting following the Florida Bike Summit

April 9, 2010
10:00 amto5:00 pm

Interested in attending the next FBA Board meeting or perhaps even considering a Board position? Now’s your chance since the next meeting will be held following the Florida Bike Summit.  Since you’ll already be in Tallahassee 4/8/10 for the Summit, stay an extra day for the board meeting on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 10:00 am-5:00 pm in Sopchoppy – 35 miles south and 100 year culture shift from Tallahassee. The meeting will be held at the home of FBA advisory board member Robert Seidler, 367 Buckhorn Creek Road, Sopchoppy FL. For directions, visit your favorite mapping site.

Bring your bike or hiking shoes since we plan on pre and post meeting activities. Stay an extra day for the 10th Annual Worm Gruntin’ Festival in downtown Sopchoppy.

Your voice counts and the best way to make a difference is to get involved as an Advisory or Board member. Please RSVP.
