Pinellas Trail Celebrates “SECOND DECADE”
PINELLAS TRAIL CELEBRATES THEIR “SECOND DECADE” ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2010 !!!
The Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail officially opened on Saturday, December 1, 1990, along the former CSX Railroad corridor from Largo to Seminole, Florida. Since that historic day, The Pinellas Trail has become one of the nation’s and Florida’s most recognized and popular “linear parks”. The all volunteer, citizens’, 501-c-3 not-for-profit organization Pinellas Trails, Inc., has raised the private donations for all the amenities, additional planting of native Florida landscaping along the trail and support for their volunteer auxiliary who help monitor the Trail along with county park rangers.
Pinellas Trails, Inc. will be hosting the 20th year celebration with cooperation from Pinellas County and municipal governments along the corridor. Public libraries throughout Pinellas County have hosted a “traveling display” complete with maps, memorabilia, photographs, a U.S. Capitol flag, caps and t-shirts from many of the “trail events” and even one of the National Rails-to-Trails’ “Hall of Fame” signs from their October, 2008 recognition.
Trail users and advocates from around the country are planning to travel to Pinellas County to enjoy The Pinellas Trail over the first weekend in December, 2010. This will be a Tampa Bay event with both county and municipal leaders expected to attend to honor the “Second Decade Celebration” and show their support for the planned “loop connection” when trail users can travel completely around Pinellas County on The Pinellas Trail!
For donations, contributions, media support and volunteering: please contact Scott Daniels, President, Pinellas Trails, Inc. via email at: pinellastrail20@gmail.com or by mailing to:
Pinellas Trails, Inc., P.O. Box 356, Clearwater, Florida 33757-0356.

Seersucker Social
| October 16, 2010 | ||
| 10:15 am |
Here’s a warm invitation for Saturday, Oct. 16, when Green Mobility Network will be holding a bike picnic with the Coral Gables Museum. We call this event the Seersucker Social. It’s a fun ride, not particularly athletic, but a good chance to enjoy the autumn sunshine, dress up in tropical duds, and meet some of the nicest people in town. The ride is free — but you do need to reserve today for the $14 picnic lunch from Green Gables Cafe. Here’s where to do that:
http://www.coralgablesmuseum.org/seersuckersocial.php. We’ll all meet at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the University Metrorail Station, 5400 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables. All riders are encouraged to wear a bike helmet. Other information is at www.greenmobilitynetwork.org. I hope to see you there!

People For Bikes tops 100,000 pledges in support of bicycling!
Take a moment to watch an inspirational YouTube video, called “People for Bikes: If I Ride” ..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEhpUov-adU. The video was actually created as a part of Bikes Belong’s campaign to bring awareness to the need for safer cycling practices (through advocacy and education) in the US.
Since this campaign and our mission share a goal, we feel it’s important to contribute by signing the pledge. If you haven’t already done so, the link is below.
www.peopleforbikes.org/signpledge
Once you sign the pledge, you may opt to receive campaign updates, like the one shown below. The goal of the campaign is to “unite one million voices” – the first goal of 100,000 has successfully been reached! Let’s help reach the next goal of 200,000 by signing the pledge and spreading the word!

Today is the last day to register to vote in Florida. That’s why I’m asking you this simple question — and why I hope you’ll ask your friends and family today.
If you’re not registered, go HERE now to complete your registration.
If you already are, please forward this email to your family and friends immediately to make sure their registration is up to date and let them know how important this election is for Florida’s future.
Registering is easy. Complete one form, print out your application and mail it in. You can also hand it in at a driver’s license office, an armed forces recruitment office, or your county’s Supervisor of Elections.
