Ride of Silence Events Nationwide Wednesday, 5/19/10

Wednesday, May 19th, the Ride of Silence happens nationwide at 7pm.  The Ride of Silence honors those who have been either injured or killed on our roadways while cycling and is also a statement of Cyclists rights to Share the Road!  Here in Orlando the Eastside Cycling Club www.eastsidecyclingclub.org is organizing the local ride.
Check out the national website at www.rideofsilence.org for a list of events throughout Florida and other areas of the country.  This is a hot issue currently as Florida House Bill 971 makes it’s way to Govenor Charlie Crist, and within that bill is legislation that will dramatically impact cyclists, and even potentially increase the harassment faced by cyclists on our roadways.

These rides are free events, bikes and cyclists of all types are welcome, and the pace will stay between 10-12mph or so, as this is a procession-not a training ride or race!

I look forward to seeing you out there!

Jim Perry, Orlando
