Governor Charlie Crist has proclaimed March as Florida Bicycle Month. A copy of the proclamation will be available soon on the FBA website so please forward the proclamation to news media and organizations in your area to help promote Florida Bicycle Month. For a list of events taking place throughout the state, click on a particular date for details. To add events to the calendar, forward information to laura@floridabicycle.org. Bike Month activities aren’t limited to March so forward details regardless of date.
The month of May is promoted nationally as National Bike Month by the League of American Bicyclst however many cities throughout Florida choose to observe Bike Month earlier due to Florida’s warm weather. In reality, every month in Florida is BIKE MONTH!
Downtown Tampa Twilight Criterium and Festival
This inaugural family-friendly event will feature both amateur and professional circuit cycling races along with an outdoor wellness festival. Bring and decorate your own bike for the cycling parade and/or touring rides. Take advantage of free activities including a bike safety check, helmet giveaway, bicycle rodeo, street skills courses, bike gear vendors and more. Ride for Rewards with Tampa BayCycle and celebrate Florida’s Bike Month in March. Tampa BayCycle promotes and encourages cycling to work, school or play. Street play is OK at Clearwater Sunday Ciclovía (see-kloh-VEE-uh)!
Enjoy a day of family fun and healthy activities on a car-free, carefree Cleveland Street. Two miles of downtown Clearwater streets will be off-limits to car traffic on March 1, 2009, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, so cyclists, strollers, skaters, joggers and dogs walkers can take over for a day of street play.
- Take a thrilling ride on the dips, hills and curves of the Ciclovía route on its way to sparkling Clearwater Harbor.
- Breathe in the fresh morning air during tai chi, aerobics or Zumba classes at Clearwater’s newest park—Station Square Park—and other venues.
- See what downtown restaurants and businesses are serving up special on event day.
