Biking in Highlands County (far south Central Florida) is great. The county is working on bike lanes and paths, and the county has made many improvements. But the entire county is easy to navigate since we have many roads with light traffic.

My wish is to be able to mount a navigation system on my bike that I could use all over the state. What about working on something like that?

How to contact someone?
I joined the Association in December; my Visa payment was acknowledged and shows up on my account, but I have not received my T Shirt.
I also have not received any correspondence or anything from the Association to acknowledge my membership?
Who to contact? There is NO contact info that I can find on this Website...

Exactly why we moved from Pensacola, FL, to Floral City, the middle of the Withlacoochee Trail and MANY new biking friends!!
When we were in Pensacola, a car actually brushed us at the corner of 9th and Chase. Bummer!

Call Gulf Power, for heaven's sake!

Florida defiantly isn't bike friendly, at least Pensacola isn't. On my 7 mile commute, only a whopping 1.4 miles has a bike lane.

My morning commute is great though! I'm out the door at 5:30 am when there's not so many people on the road. My evening commute is just horrid. Near peak traffic, no other routes to take but a main artery with no bike lanes. The drivers don't bother to give any space when passing and two days in a row, I've had trucks, one from Gulf Power and another from MasTec, a contractor to Gulf Power blast by me, horns blaring. The Gulf Power truck was so close I could have touched it without extending my arm. I was traveling at 32 MPH, had he caused me to crash in heavy traffic, it would not have been a pretty sight!

I can't figure out how to add a question where I want to. We are thinking of visiting Florida for a week and trying to figure out where to go. The Van Fleet trail sounded nice except cyclists were warned to wear orange during hunting season. Has anyone been accidentally shot?

I understand the methodology used to determine those rankings but the reality of 'Bike friendliness' in a lot those places is very different than the rankings might suggest. South Carolina for instance, is a very hostile environment from an actual riding point of view. 17th ranked Vermont might be the friendliest state in the whole union. They dont need separate facilities because the actual population accepts cyclists. Arizona 3rd, huh ?!?!? Not realistic. When I first came to Florida I was astounded at what an unfriendly place it was overall. in the store, cycling, everywhere people look at other people only as inconveniences. I wrote the Governors office to explain some of the stuff I suffer as a commuter here in South Florida and the response was jaw dropping. To be brief...Cyclists cause their own problems / accidents and based on two previous questionnaires sent to Florida drivers, people dont believe bicycles should be allowed to share the road with cars so no money will ever be allotted to television PSA's or education. OK, I see....base some peoples safety and worth on public opinion. Huh ?!?
We are the only people who just dont 'get it'. There is no hope until an ignorant and selfish population can accept and understand the things that make a multi-dimensional infrastructure work in civilized counties.
